See how the coffee export trade from Brazil, conscious of the EUDR, is working to meet this new European regulation.

Since 2012 Brazil has had the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR), a national electronic public registry, mandatory to all rural real properties. Instituted by Law 12.651/2012, article 29, the CAR gathers environmental information from rural properties, including Permanent Preservation Areas (APP), restricted use areas, Legal Reservation areas, remaining forests and other native vegetation, besides consolidated areas.
Thus, by choosing Brazilian coffee, European importers and roasters not only offer their consumers an exceptional quality bean, but also transmit the message that the coffee has its origin in properties committed to sustainable production, cultivated and harvested by producers conscious of Brazilian environmental regulations and the EUDR.
In order that sustainability keeps on being one of the main flavors of Brazilian coffee, Cecafé ‒ Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council ‒ established a partnership with Serasa Experian, the first and major Datatech of Brazil.
This partnership makes possible the access and monitoring of rural properties, by means of the Smart ESG digital solution, a platform on which exporters associated with Cecafé can obtain socioenvironmental indicators and detailed data from official public databases about areas in which their coffee originated.
In 2023, the platform incorporated the protocol of the European Union Regulation on Deforestation-Free Products (EUDR) as a key indicator, based on official public databases from the Brazilian government and deforestation monitoring systems in Brazil’s biomes, such as Prodes and Mapbiomas Alerta.
Such information not only facilitates the monitoring of properties, but also generates intelligence to give incentive to and support necessary socioenvironmental regularizations, helping to reduce the environmental impact and increase sustainability of coffee production in Brazil.
The Smart ESG solution is aimed exclusively at Brazilian exporters who are members of Cecafé and join the Serasa Experian platform. Each exporter is responsible for generating and sharing data with their European importers and roasters.
Cecafé (Brazilian Coffee Exporters Council) is the main representative of Brazilian coffee exporters, being responsible for more than 96% of green coffee beans exports from the country. Its commitment is to defend and promote the interests of coffee exporters in a transparent and professional manner.
