The Coffee Kids at School\u00a0<\/strong>program is designed to integrate schools in coffee producing digital content, allowing a large number of children in the rural zone to have the same access to knowledge as the children in large urban centers. Together with an improvement in the quality of teaching, we believe that we are contributing to reducing rural exodus, and preventing workers from being restricted to the field.<\/p>\n

History and Current Activities<\/h3>\n

The project began in 2004, and currently features 137 digital laboratories established in six States across the Country. The Program began with an IT lab, fully fitted with 10 computers, IT equipment and related school material. Each digital lab was set up in partnership with a Cecaf\u00e9 exporting member, or an organization in the industry. The choice of the benefiting municipality is normally made by a Cecaf\u00e9 member exporting company that has a branch or sells coffee in the region, and therefore has first-hand knowledge of local needs.<\/p>\n

In 2015, CECAF\u00c9 has decided to focus its efforts on modernizing the existing Digital Labs and expanding their use for teaching and by the community around the school.<\/p>\n

Public<\/h3>\n

The public served by the \u201cCoffee Kids at School<\/strong>\u201d program is made up of young people and children in public pre-schools, elementary schools and middle schools in coffee producing communities, and in many cases, the school\u2019s teachers themselves. Some schools open the digital suite for use by the surrounding community.<\/p>\n
